What is maggam work?
Maggam (also called aari) work is done by hand on a wooden frame using a hook needle. Artisans add zari, beads, sequins and stones in patterns, usually on necklines, sleeves and borders.
How to spot good hand work
Look at the back — neat, close stitches mean careful work. Beads and stones should sit firmly. In our reels you can see the work up close before you order.
Care
Always dry clean maggam work. Fold with the work inside, wrapped in cotton, so the beads don't catch on other clothes.
